Quiet Professional

Quiet Professional

In the SOF and tactical communities, much is said about being a “Quiet Professional.” Does that mean we don’t ever say anything about our service, our background? Does that mean we can’t capitalize on our experience and skills outside of the military? In my opinion, that is a foolish expectation and an unfair one. Anyone with special operations experience, especially combat experience, has paid a heavy price for their skills and knowledge. Those things are valuable, and that investment should have its reward. Doesn’t mean you boast, or overshare, or wear your service on your sleeve.

What does it mean to be a Quiet Professional then? The litmus test for me is as it always has been. I never want my actions or words to embarrass the regiment in any way. There is a standard you accept when you join its ranks, and It needs to be upheld in all you say or do from that moment forward.

In my opinion, what it means to be a Quiet Professional is simply this. That you present what you should, remain quiet about the things that you shouldn’t share openly, and above all that your public communication is professional and dignified.
