Description Videos Reviews This two-day course focuses on how to optimally train marksmanship at speed with a pistol. This course is not about tactics, although tactical application of all techniques taught will be discussed, but instead is about skill with the firearm. Your skill at shooting drives your tactics, and the ability to make a shot with precision, rapidly, and under pressure, is of paramount importance. Our goal is for every student to finish this class with a deeper understanding of how to construct their personal training in order to improve as efficiently as possible. Ammo available if purchased 2 weeks or more prior to class date. Topics Covered: Fundamental principles of marksmanship at speed Efficiency and consistency of weapons manipulation at speed Movement principles for application of shooting technique Technical efficiency and individual optimization of technique Isolation of skills and training methodology for improvement Technical experimentation in training Complex drills for training skills in aggregate Maximizing performance under pressure Creating a feedback loop for maximizing efficiency of training Course Prerequisites Good health and a fitness level sufficient for strenuous physical activity. All our classes incorporate vigorous athletic movement. All our classes require safe weapons handling at an unconsciously competent level of skill. This includes drawing from a holster, reholstering, reloads, and weapons safety during dynamic movement and under physical and mental stress. Flagrant or negligent unsafe actions will result in removal from a class without refund. Equipment Requirements Serviceable pistol of 9mm or larger caliber, minimum 3 magazines (6 for single stack guns), belt, holster and at a minimum two mag pouches capable of retaining weapon and magazines during strenuous movement. Minimum 1,000 rounds of ammunition, although more is recommended. Eye/ear protection for range. No Serpa holsters or soft nylon/leather holsters permitted in class. Matt has a quiet, assured approach that encourages a sense of calm and focus. He is quite intellectual about the whole process and everything we did over the two days always led up to integrating more elements into the training process. His style is to interact quietly with each person after observing them run a drill or exercise. If the group might benefit from his comments he’ll address the group as a whole. He is also very good about “atta boys” and encouraging everyone were appropriate. It is interesting how a disparate group with varied shooting backgrounds and skills can come together and all benefit and grow. It is interesting in retrospect just how intense and focussed the days were and yet there was never a sense of rushing to fit more in. Each day just flowed smoothly. All participants benefitted as a result of his broad background as a police officer, special forces operator and competitor in USPSA. Each discipline runs from a different set of perspectives and needs and the ability to draw from each really benefits. Matt is ably assisted by his wife and business partner Angela, and together they are seamless in creating a smooth running harmonious operation. I left the range tired, but elated, with a greatly enhanced sense of what I need to do to continue to progress. I will be signing up for more classes in the future. 5 Great class and very welcoming atmosphere! Posted by Mark on 12th Oct 2021 I had the chance to train with Matt a couple weeks ago in Oklahoma and decided that I really wanted to train with Matt again. Thankfully he had a class coming up in Colorado so I signed up! Matt is an excellent shooter, teacher, and has a gentle demeanor that welcomes shooters of most all experience levels (though this class is not for someone who just purchased a pistol). His wife Angela is equally as welcoming and very friendly. I got hurt in this class on the second morning straining a calf muscle, so don't forget to stretch! Matt and Angela were great in making sure I was taken care of and stable before continuing the class. I've received several e-mails from them in the following days just to make sure I'm alright, as well. I get the feeling when you train with Matt you're kind of joining a family and you inevitably make some friends as well, since it's such a positive and enjoyable atmosphere. I thought I was a pretty good shooter until I saw how much better I could become by learning from Matt, so if you're looking to really advance your abilities, this is one of the best ways to do it with one of the best training programs available. They won't be doing this forever, so if he's in your town I highly recommend taking a class and seeing for yourself! 5 Will be back again Posted by Matthew R on 12th Oct 2021 Thank you Matt and Angela for the fantastic weekend of instruction. If you are interested in taking your shooting to the next level, look no further. Matt has a wealth of knowledge and is able to articulate and break down everything he teaches so that anyone can understand. His instruction is very methodical and builds upon itself, starting from working isolated drills and applying them in combination drills. He not only tests your skills on manipulation setting strict par times but tested your processing speed making you think about the course of fire and the most efficient way to complete it. He also is very careful in watching the way you shoot making sure to diagnose issues he sees and giving you one on one feedback to help you improve your shooting. I cannot say thank you enough for all that I learned and took home to work on. 5 Pistol Skill Development Posted by Gabe White on 18th May 2021 Excellent class! Matts professional and well-developed technical background shine through, along with his perspective as a martial artist, to bring together an unusually good treatment of technical skill development! 5 Pistol Skill Development Posted by Adam Williams on 14th Apr 2021 I was fortunate enough to attend the one day version of Matt’s Pistol Development Course. To say Matt is a great instructor is an understatement. This class is a must have for anyone who carries a pistol for defense and/or shoots competition. I will definitely be attending more of his courses in the future. 5 Pistol Skill Development Posted by Gabe R. on 20th Mar 2021 Matt’s Pistol Skill Development Course is one of the best I’ve taken. Not only does this course highlight areas you can personally improve on with your shooting technique but it outlines a method to train in order to set goals and achieve them. Matt was able to articulate the benefits of competitive shooting in the law enforcement world due to his experience in both spectrums. He also demonstrated how the processing speed of competitive shooting improves your processing time in scenario based training such as CQB. I would highly recommend this course for anyone in law enforcement or anyone who carries a firearm and wants to improve their skills. 5 Pistol Skill Development Posted by Charles Larkin on 9th Mar 2021 This class was great. We learned a lot of techniques and drills to use in our practice, as well as a framework and goals for effective practice. By the end of the class I was definitely shooting sooner and more accurately with more consistency. I hope to take a class from Matt again in the future. 5 Pistol Skill Development Course Posted by Former Team Guy on 9th Mar 2021 You absolutely should train with Matt at Greybeard Actual. This is a very well run course that focuses the student on how to improve, not only during the two day course, but during their own training sessions as well. Students ranged from active law enforcement, retired law enforcement, to CCW holders. EVERYONE in the course learned how to improve their training and performance, and even though there were various skill levels, everyone made marked improvement. My intent for the course was to leave shooting better on Sunday afternoon than I did Saturday morning. I believe I achieved my intent, but I also left with three pages worth of typed notes on how to improve not only my shooting, but the shooting of my teammates and those I instruct. Many shooting schools give you a variety of drills and standards to shoot, and the course is spent working on shooting those drills to meet a par time at the end. While this is effective, this type of instruction is purely training. Matt’s course is something more. What we learned in 2 days was a functional model on how to develop your own training plan, then Matt showed us how to execute that training over two days. Did we put a lot of rounds down range? Absolutely. But we didn’t just blaze away, we learned something from every round. This is a mental as well as physical course. If you are a CCW shooter, and you are focused on keeping yourself and your family safe, this course will show you how you can structure your training to do that. Are you looking to become or are you already a competitive shooter? This course will show you how to become more efficient and make better choices in training and execution to achieve the results you want. Are you a Law Enforcement or Military shooter who is looking to increase their abilities for operational application? This course will show you how to push your and your team’s cognitive bandwidth in the practical application of marksmanship, to allow you to execute your tactics effectively to have the greatest opportunity for mission success. In a time when ammunition is expensive and time at a premium, you owe it to yourself and your team to train with Matt. You are not getting just a two day course with Matt, you are getting a way to structure and plan all your training to achieve the results you want. 5 Pistol Skills Development Posted by Tony Yglesias on 9th Mar 2021 Matt did an excellent job explaining what we were doing and why. His insight on how to train was very helpful and informative. He was also open to different suggestions on different aspects of the class. I highly recommend training with Matt and Angela.
